This is an original wooden foundry mold of large size with metal identification tags. This piece has retained its original finish of exquisite colour and patina with minimal structural damage.

From the foundry machine shop of "Doncaster railway works. Always referred to as "The Plant", it was established by the Great Northern Railway in 1853 and is located in the town of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England.

Among the locomotives, coaches and carriages, the works produced were the Stirling Singles, the Ivatt Atlantics and the Gresley pacific including the world-famous flying Scotsman the first locomotive to achieve 100 mph and also run from London King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley non-stop; and #mallard which achieved the top speed of 126 mph on 3 July 1938 to become the world's fastest steam locomotive, a record that she still holds to the present day.

Foundry molds are wooden tools, carved out or built up to creative negative space, which in turn is used to make the inverse form or shape to be used to be used for the casting of metal.

This would make a fantastic table or statement art/ architectural piece with a great history.
