Singer machinist or workers chair, with the classic branded 'Eiffel Tower' cast iron base, height adjustable swivel stem, bent ply seat and back. Made by Simanco (Singer Manufacturing Co.). All original parts, including rare original 'Simanco' wingnuts (including patent numbers ) and the Singer bases. Fully functional, the seat is adjustable via a smooth swival action.
These chairs were made for factory workers operating industrial Singer sewing machines. The goal was to produce a robust, comfortable chair that could also be mass produced.
The ergonomic features of the design are impressive for the era - a contoured height adjustable seat base is combined with an adjustable back rest for added comfort. A functional design that is useful, practical, edgy and stylish.
