Regency Painted Faux Bamboo Side Chair

Date: Early 1800’s (Regency)

Rushed seat

Original paint

Origin: English

Dimensions:

87cm (34.5”) high; 43cm (17”) wide; 35cm (13.75”) deep approx.

A decorative early-nineteenth century bamboo simulated side chair showing the original ochre or buttermilk painted finish, now distressed commensurate with age. With painted rush reeded seat and simulated bamboo supports of typical Regency design. We love the aged colour and all- over patina which makes this a most beautiful decorative chair.

It incorporates all the characteristics that made Chinoiserie favoured by the then Prince Regent. Which secured the popularity of chinoiserie furniture long after the death of George IV. The light eclectic mix of styles of the Regency period symbolised the gay informality and creativity, a stark brake from ebony and ormolu of the highly stylised pieces which preceded it.

Left Untouched.

A beautiful decorative piece to be admired and placed either in the corner or the side of an entrance.
