    Materials and Techniques: Porcelain Polychrome Sancai or Fahua type multi colour glaze
    Period: 1900-1920, Chinese Export (Of the Period).

    The figure is original of the period, a heavy piece and has a a real presence.
    Base and lamp fixture are later.

    A large, courtly, hand painted scholar decorated in a rich polychrome, irridesant slip glaze of mainly golden brown (background robe), well executed with sections enlivened by pale jade green, cobolt blue and puce.

    hIS face and head is unglazed apart from the carefully painted eyes and eyebrows, which gives his visage a soft and friendly countenance. He has a wonderful long braid, beautifully detailed heritage robes, including dragon emblems, beaded necklace and holding a scroll or fan.
