Polychrome Porcelain Glazed Scholar Figure as a Lamp

Hand Decorated Polychrome, Glazed, Porcelain Scholar Figure mounted to a black stepped base now a Lamp.

 

Early 20th Century 

 

Dimensions: Figure Height: 41cm (16.14 in ), height to top of bulb holder 53cm Width: 13cm (5.1 in), Depth: 13cm (5.1 inch)

Materials and Techniques: Porcelain Polychrome Sancai or Fahua type multi colour glaze


A large, courtly, hand painted scholar decorated in a rich polychrome, iridescent slip glaze of mainly golden brown (background robe), well executed with sections enlivened by pale jade green, cobalt blue and puce. His face and head is unglazed apart from the carefully painted eyes and eyebrows, which gives his visage a soft and friendly countenance. He has a wonderful long braid, beautifully detailed heritage robes, including dragon emblems, beaded necklace and holding a scroll or fan.

 

A one off piece

 

The lamps has recently been professionally rewired and PAT tested.
