    Matte white bisque porcelain twisted column, with exquisite hand painted, raised polychrome enamelled trailing blossom, leaves and pale blue flowers; the patinated bronze capital of Corinthian form, ending in a foliated, deep soccled concave base on bun feet.

     

    Bisque porcelain, French for “biscuit,” refers to  unglazed, white porcelain treated as a final product,with a matt appearance and texture to the touch almost like marble. It has been widely used in European pottery, mainly for sculptural and decorative objects that are not tableware and so do not need a glaze for protection.that resemble white marble after being kiln-fired.

     

    This is an unusual and attractive piece of good size and very heavy. A lamp of the finest quality and a rare survivor.

     

    Carefully adapted from oil to electricity, incorporating the original trefoil shade holder to show the evolution of this lamp. Rewired with PAT ready to go.
