Silvered Glass Scrying Ball
  • Silvered Glass Scrying Ball

    Dimensions: H 2Ocm, 7.9 inch, Diameter 12cm
    Period: Early 20th Century

An unusual curiosity made of what appears to be silver glass fixed on to a dark black, green marbled stand, which looks like either veined stone or obsidian as it is difficult to determine. The Item is certainly very heavy in weight.

Reflective surfaces mirror glass or crystal balls have been used for centuries in divination to look into the future, and beyond this world, an ancient practice known as scrying. Witches’ balls are hollow spheres of glass. historically, they were hung in cottage windows in 17th and 18th century England to ward off evil spirits, witches, evil spells, ill fortune, and bad spirits, later they were mounted upon stands for the mantel or hung from the rafters.

Fabulous curio, a wonderful decorative piece of social history to display or to add to a collection, Wunderkammer or cabinet of curiosities, in its original, untouched original form and condition. The condition is largely what one would expect to find in an original antique example with foxing to the reflective surface.

When we found this, we could not help but be bewitched.
Wear consistent with age and use.
